Ben Redshaw

Level 3 - Year 1

With this image, and being from Manchester, I am presenting that Manchester is my own little world. I got the idea from one of the artist that I researched for my most recent project, Alexandre Duret-Lutz. The technique that I have used is called the 'Mini Globe' effect. The way that I created this image was by using a panorama image. On Photoshop, I placed the image onto a new canvas, then I changed the image size so that the height and width were the same size. After that, I flipped the image vertically and then used the polar coordinates filter to make the image in the 'Mini Globe' effect.

What have I learnt from this course?

I think this year has allowed me to present some skills that I had previously, but also gave me a chance to learn a lot of new techniques, information and learn off of my peers in both year 1 & 2. Some of the new skills and techniques that I have learnt aren't all about photography either. I've learnt some other skills like Printmaking, Still Life Drawing etc. In all honesty, most of the techniques I have learnt have been revolving around photography. Some of these skills are, Manual Settings, Photoshop tools/tricks and Aperture settings.

What is my advice for anyone joining the course?

My advice for anyone that is joining this photography course would be to try everything that gets put in front of you. Even if you think that it isn't interesting or if you think you won’t like it, just try it. I'm saying this because at the start of year one for me, I thought that I wasn't going to like most of subjects other than photography but it turned out that printmaking and fine art activities are quiet enjoyable and I actually learnt a lot of new skills ready for my future within Photography.

From September I will be progressing on to Level 3 Photography Year 2.
