Level 3 - Year 2

This is the final outcome of my course and it shows a Scottish Folklore creature Known as the ‘Nuckelavee’, which is a horse/man hybrid which lacked all hair and skin. It was supposedly an aquatic creature so there are fins and spines across the body, and the man wears a stone mask which cannot be removed, acting as the creatures only face.

I used many things as influence to make this, but one of the heavy influences comes from the ‘Clydesdale’ breed of Shire horse. This is because of the massive, muscular and bulky frame, along with the fins on the legs, which represent the hair which is present in the same place on the shire. The mask is the other big aspect as I was inspired by an artist called ‘RJ Palmer’ on artstation and his render of the same creature. The Nuckelavee there is from a TV programme called ‘RWBY’ and the face is a skull which looks like a mask, but it’s really the face.

The intention behind this was to represent a Scottish myth which isn’t the Loch Ness Monster, as this and other European Creatures tend to overshadow the lesser known ones. I wanted to bring light to an awesome myth and an even more awesome creature.
