Megan Witherford

Level 3 - Year 1 - Fine Art

The intention for my 3D project was to experiment with manipulating paper into different shapes and sizes to see what I could make. I was able to make all the roses from the pages in the book which are delicate but beautiful, just like how real roses are.

I used black ink to make the roses the focus point of the piece and to make them stand out from the words in the book. Nicola Dale was my inspiration for this art piece as she also uses books to create her artwork. My ‘Black Rose Book’ has been associated with something out of a dark fairytale. The Neon Roses are a poly block print overlapping the dark colours with brighter, bolder colours in order to make specific sections contrast.

What have I learnt from this course?

During my course, I learned how to carry out projects to display my personal life experiences and share a message through sculpture, drawing, painting and installation. This year, I have been able to develop and improve on my 3D making skills through creating sculptures from various materials, techniques, styles and scales.

What is my advice for anyone joining the course?

My advice for anyone starting this course would be to keep experimenting and sampling as much as you can because although annotation is important, you can’t just write your way through a project.
